They’re Not Horsing Around At This Branch!

By Linda Steinmuller

Reading may be Fundamental –but so is exercise! Join Brooklynites on Saturday, May 20th at the Brooklyn Public Library’s ( BPL) Bike the Branches event. Be sure to stop by the Paerdegat Branch, located at 850 East 59th Street, and check out their cool display.

Allison Bean, Neighborhood Library Supervisor ( pictured left ) , Ian Us tick, Adult Librarian ( pictured right), the entire staff at the Paerdegat Library, along with Friends of the Paerdegat Library, put together a display dedicated to biking and, yes, horses on bikes!

You might ask, “ Why horses?” The word “ paerdegat” is derived f rom the old Dutch word, “ paardengat ,” which means “ horse gate,” and the library is located not far from the nor th end of Paerdegat Basin, at Ralph and Flatlands Avenue.

Every BPL branch will host a variety of fun programs and activities for all ages. Bike to as many library branches as you can from 10 a. m. to 5 p. m., and get your Bike the Branches passport stamped at each branch. Prizes will be awarded to adults and children who visit the most branches!

For more information on this fun- filled event, and to register online, visit https://bpl. bklynlibrary.org/bike/.
