Brooklyn College Bulldogs Streak Snapped
The Bulldogs, who won 10 of the last 11 CUNYAC Cheerleading Championships and were trying to maintain their four-year winning streak, were ready to compete against Manhattan’s John Jay College Bloodhounds and the Bronx’ Lehman College Lightning.
The crowd was large and loud as each team came out for mixes of dances, flips, tumbling, jumps and stunts to a wide variety of music. Brooklyn and Lehman attempted to keep steady paces with pyramids and tosses, but balancing issues caused cheerleaders to fall or lose timing in their performances. John Jay, although having small errors of their own, was able to keep their routine under control more than their opponents, leading to their first championship. Brooklyn took second place and Lehman went back to the Bronx in third.
In addition to the championship trophies and medals, season award and jump competition medals were presented to:
Coach of the Year – Kayla Harness (John Jay College); Rookie of the Year – Victoria Frias (Brooklyn College); Performer of the Year – Isis Samuels (John Jay College); Sportsmanship – Mica Severe (Lehman College) and Vanessa Borrero (Brooklyn College); Jump Competition – William Head (Brooklyn College - Gold),Isis Samuels (John Jay – Silver and Surelle Santos (Lehman – Bronze)
