Canarsie's Purim Megilah Reading
The megilah is the sacred scroll containing, in the form of a letter to the people of ancient Persia, the story of Purim. Last Sunday, Chabad of Canarsie and Starrett City held a festive dinner followed by the public reading of the megilah at Young Israel of Canarsie, 1265 East 108th Street. The scroll, authored by Queen Esther and her uncle Mordechai, who served King Ahasuerus as prime minister of Persia, relates the tale of the great deliverance of Ahasuerus’ Jewish subjects from the hand of the evil minister, Haman. The joyous holiday is marked by giving charity to the needy and gifts of food to friends and family. You may see and purchase more photos from the event by visiting www.canarsiecourier.com.
