What's Your Opinion?

Compiled by Bill O’Neill

Question: How do you feel about the verdict in the George Zimmerman case following the tragic shooting of Trayvon Martin?

–Gwen Gilliam, Canarsie –Gwen Gilliam, Canarsie “I didn’t like it at all. We take it to heart – being a mother with children – that a teenager lost his life. But I understand that it went by the letter of the law.”

–Elijah Egerton, Canarsie –Elijah Egerton, Canarsie “I believe it was fair. In these streets, you run into stuff like that all the time. Zimmerman did what he had to do. Half the time, the ‘perp’ isn’t telling the truth anyway.”

–Daisy Dinkins, Canarsie –Daisy Dinkins, Canarsie “I think that was wrong. The world knows he should have been found guilty. Trayvon Martin had no gun – nothing. Zimmerman just shot him because it was something he wanted to do. It was based on racial prejudice.”

–Joseph Pisciotta, Canarsie –Joseph Pisciotta, Canarsie “Zimmerman got out of that car because he wanted to get into a confrontation. And that makes Zimmerman guilty, in my opinion. It wasn’t Trayvon Martin’s fault. It’s such a sorry event.”
