H.E.S. Hosts Special Fundraiser
On Monday, June 10th the Hebrew Educational Society (H.E.S.) held a Benefit Cocktail Reception in the new home of Richard Mack, President of the H.E.S. Board, and his wife, Chris Mack, in support of the new H.E.S. Pediatric Oncology Outpatient Support (POOS) program at a local Brooklyn hospital. Dr. Stanley E. Fisher, Pro-fessor and Chair of Children's Hospital at Downstate, addressed the crowd to discuss the importance of POOS in the lives of children and their families.
The event was held to raise funds for the newly established pediatric oncology outpatient support program and to help people learn about the H.E.S.
H.E.S., in keeping with its mission to serve children and families, will launch the new program which supports a child's resilience and mitigates the fear, anger, anxiety, and depression that often develop when undergoing treatments for cancer and blood disorders. H.E.S. staff and volunteers will engage children receiving cancer outpatient treatment in fun and enjoyable activities to ease their time in waiting areas and treatment rooms. The program will address the needs of the patients' siblings and parents. In addition, the H.E.S. POOS program will provide these patients and their families with a gateway to other H.E.S. programs and services.
The program is due to start this summer and will expand to other hospital outpatient settings in its second year in New York City. Once again, thanks to Richard and Chris Mack for hosting this amazing event. For more information about this program, please feel free to contact Danielle Pomerantz at 718-241-3000 ext. 33.
