Post-Sandy Program Deadline Nearing For Business Owners
With many establishments still attempting to rebuild following Superstorm Sandy, Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz is reaching out to business owners to inform them of various city programs that offer financial assistance.
Last week, Cymbrowitz invited Mari Moss-Yawn, an outreach specialist from the city’s Restoration Business Acceleration Team (RBAT), to his office to conduct signups for a fee relief program. Signed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg as an executive order, the Fee Relief For Business Recovery Certification program offers business owners an opportunity to either waive fees related to rebuilding or receive full refunds for fees already paid. Twelve city agencies were ordered to provide this service, which involves filling out a form and checking off specific fees, for business owners,
“We want to get the word out to business owners that the deadline is approaching,” stated Moss-Yawn. “Owners have until May 31st to fill out the form. The waivers may be used up until December 31st but the application deadline is May 31st.”
“I encourage any business struggling to rebuild to take advantage of these time-limited refunds. Every little bit helps,” Cymbrowitz said. “I commend the Mayor’s Office for offering this assistance to help our merchants get back on their feet.”
