It’s Victory Day At Sunrise!
It was a festive time at the Sunrise Adult Day Health Care Center last Thursday as hundreds of seniors celebrated one of Russia’s most important holidays – Victory Day, which commemorates the end of World War II in Russia.
Also known as the Great Patriotic War, the former USSR lost over 26 million lives in the bloodiest war in history. Every year on May 9th, the Red Square Parade is held in Moscow to honor veterans – with over 11,000 troops, fighter jets and helicopters, ending with a grand firework display. The parade is among thousands of other events held in Russia each year.
Sunrise seniors celebrated with their own parade and veterans proudly wore their military medals in honor of the 68th anniversary of the end of the World War II in 1945.
