Thanks To The NYPD For Gang-Awareness Forum

Dear Detective Leon, Sergeant Andre, Police Officers O’Donnell & Kendall:

On behalf of our entire school community of parents, students, teachers, staff and friends, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to come to our school to provide a presentation which will not only continue to impact our thoughts, but will thankfully save lives. My only hope is that it will motivate our entire community to take action and commit ourselves towards the elimination of gang culture in our communities…all of it, including the glamorization of its music, clothes and most especially its celebrities.

I am also writing to show appreciation and gratitude for the many men and women in law enforcement, who have committed themselves to protecting and educating our communities. Many of us take for granted the protection we are provided by the police, and at times they are misunderstood. This evening, after having the opportunity to hear Police Officer O’Donnell’s hour long presentation on Gang Awareness, the experience has given me a completely different outlook and understanding of what men and women in law enforcement must do every day to keep us safe. What Sergeant Andre and Police Officer Kendall shared further empowered parents with information that they could immediately use to protect our children.

Sadly this workshop did not reach so many of the parents who truly needed to hear it and even with the work put forth by the police, the organized growth of gangs will continue. Based on what I learned, this is a historical fact. I am determined to hold on to the dream of a gang free community. Thank you again for coming to our school. This experience has been informative and we saw law enforcement that most of us never see. I recommend that others in our community (faith-based and community organizations) spend time with members of the Community Affairs Bureau, as we did this evening.

Respectfully,

Ivie Bien-Aime
