According to police, who are treating the incident as a suicide, the woman fell onto a walkway behind her 1201 Pennsylvania Avenue apartment building off Ardsley Loop near Vandalia Avenue.

Sadly, her body landed just short of a soft grass patch adjacent to the pavement. Neighbors in her building, who declined to be identified, said that Simpkins was distraught recently over the death of her husband two months ago. An EMS ambulance rushed Simpkins to Brookdale Hospital in East New York where she was pronounced dead.

The existence of a suicide note was not revealed by investigators at press time. Simpkins worked in the New York State Court system. A large crowd attended her funeral held at the Guarino Funeral Home in Canarsie this past Tuesday.
