Nine HES Swimmers Place High In Junior Olympics Meet

This past weekend, the United States Metropolitan Swimming Association held its annual Junior Olympics meet. Over 45 teams attended the meet and brought their best competitors.

In order to attend, swimmers must achieve cut off times in each event, which is not an easy feat.

The H.E.S. Hurricanes had nine swimmers who qualified and attended this meet. All have been training extremely hard to improve their times and attend this meet. The following Hurricanes that attended the 2012 Junior Olympics included:

Vlad Verba (15), Valerie Vassilieva (14), Michael Mcalpine (12), Justin Duval (12), Derrick Odom (12), Lucas Gaberkorn (12), Mark Grobshteyn (10), Jacob Yankelevich (10) and Bianca Salcedo (11).

All swimmers gave their best in the pool and placed high in most of the events. Justin Duval finished in the top eight in six of his nine events and received awards. Many teams had between 10 and 75 swimmers who attended the meet, but the Hurricanes managed to best most of them and finish in 15th place overall out of 45 in team scoring.
