What's Your Opinion?

QUESTION: The city’s Design Commission held a final hearing last week on a pilot project the Parks Department has been pushing for more than a year – replacing a five-block stretch of the aging 2.5-mile boardwalk with concrete and plastic for Coney Island’s boardwalk. Will you be heading to the boardwalk a lot this summer and what do you think of replacing the wooden planks?

“I’m on the fence about it. I appreciate the old boardwalk. The old wood planks definitely need to be replaced. But they could put new wood down.” –Malwina Andruzzyk, Flatbush “I’m on the fence about it. I appreciate the old boardwalk. The old wood planks definitely need to be replaced. “I don’t think so. It should stay the way it is — because otherwise it will take away from the flavor of Coney Island.” –Anwar Shahzad, Midwood “I don’t think so. It should stay the way it is — because otherwise it will take away from the flavor of Coney Island.” –Anwar Shahzad, Midwood

“There is something to be said about the old style. But with plastic, at least you will not be tripping over nails and loose wood.” –Matthias Bonnici, Midwood “There is something to be said about the old style.
