Seddio Announcing Run For Fidler’s Council Seat Tonight

By Charles Rogers

Frank Seddio Frank Seddio Popular former judge and State Assemblyman Frank Seddio will officially announce his candidacy for the 46th District City Council seat being vacated by Councilman Lew Fidler tonight at 8 p.m. at the famous bastion of local politics, the Thomas Jefferson Democratic Club, 77 Conklin Avenue.

Two weeks ago, when Fidler officially declared he was going to seek the Senate seat that once belonged to disgraced former senator Carl Kruger, Seddio decided to make his intentions official.

Fidler is now a candidate in the March 20th special election for the 27th Senatorial District vacated in December by Kruger, who resigned after pleading guilty to corruption charges.

Seddio, a longtime Canarsien and almost a political “fixture” in local politics, had previously said that, because of term limits at the end of Fidler’s term later this year he would “probably” run for the Council position anyway.

Now that Fidler will be vying for the Albany post in the special election, Seddio has decided to throw his hat into the proverbial ring right away.

It’s obvious Seddio is backing Fidler one hundred percent in his bid for the senatorial seat at this point. Not only are the two compatriots from the powerful Jefferson Club, where Seddio is district leader, but Seddio has been a mentor and advisor to Fidler from the start.

He said tonight’s announcement will also herald the club’s support for Fidler in his senatorial bid.

Having not only been a civic leader in the local area for years, but a “name” throughout the community, Frank Seddio at one time was district manager of Community Board 18, which covers most of the territory within the district in which he’s running. He was also a surrogate judge and a state assemblyman from the 59th A.D.

An activist from every classic definition of the term, Seddio has for years been seen and heard attending and lecturing at meetings of civic, religious and educational forums throughout the area.

The 46th District covers many parts of southern Brooklyn, including Canarsie, Bergen Beach, Georgetown, Marine Park, Mill Basin and Gerritsen Beach.
