MOTHER CHARGED WITH ABANDONING TODDLERS
Police last Sunday arrested a 26- year-old mother of two girls after she abandoned them earlier in the day on Shore Parkway near the Bayview Houses project.
Police sources said the mother, Dalisha Adams, was arrested and charged with leaving her two children, 3-year-old Dominae and 2-year-old Dioni, on the sidewalk between East 102nd Street and Shore Parkway where they had been seen walking back and forth most of the day.
Both tykes were bundled in heavy down jackets and wearing boots while carrying a set of disposable diapers.
Neighborhood residents called 911 after seeing the toddlers wandering by themselves in the cold. Two patrol officers from PSA 1’s Bayview Houses Unit responded and walked the girls door to door within the project area. The officers also tried to find out more information on where the children came from since the youngsters apparently only knew their first names. It was later determined their grandmother apparently lives in the Bayview complex.
Police made repeated attempts to contact the mother, who works as a security guard. The District Attorney’s office stated that she turned herself in at the 69th Precinct stationhouse and was then arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of her children.
She was arraigned Tuesday and some published reports said Adams, who has no criminal record, did not enter a plea and her bail was set at $2,500. Following the incident, the children were taken to Brookdale Hospital for evaluation and were then released to the city’s Administration for Children’s Services.
