According to reports, a call came in to the 69th Precinct that shots were heard outside the sixth floor apartment at 103-12 Glenwood Road shortly after 6 p.m. on December 26th.

Sources indicated that a drug and money-related dispute may have erupted between 43-year-old Osvaldo Vasquez and his 61-year-old stepfather at the location.

The fight escalated when the stepfather, Dolores Fuentes, allegedly refused to give Vasquez money.

The stepfather allegedly pulled out a handgun he had in the apartment and shot Vasquez once in the chest.

Neighbors heard the commotion and called 911 and, although Emergency Medical Service paramedics and police responded to the scene immediately, the victim died in the ambulance before he was taken to Brookdale Hospital, according to sources.

Police canvassed the area when they arrived at the scene and recovered the weapon, which was found outside the Breukelen building.

A News12 Brooklyn report claimed Vasquez’s mother said the gun “accidentally” went off.

Fuentez was formally charged Wednesday morning with murder and possession of a weapon.
