But head coach Anwar Gladden still believes South Shore is a perpetual work in progress, not looking past what’s before his team.

“We’re going to take it day by day,” Gladden affirmed. “There’s nowhere to go, just take it day by day.”

Saturday, in a non-league tilt, South Shore (8-1, 7-0) outlasted Baltimore’s talented St. Frances Academy, 43-38, at the 7th Annual Festival of the Phoenix at University High School in Newark, NJ. Senior Fannisha Price led the Lady Vikings with 18 points, while Aliyah Cooley and Jenice Winter chipped in with 10 and 7 points, respectively.

The night before, South Shore—behind a stellar effort from Price, who drained a game-high 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds—beat host Queens’ Francis Lewis, 54-43, keeping its undefeated “AA” PSAL record intact.

“They moved around the ball well, the defense rotated, they communicated, they talked, they boxed out, and offensively, Fannisha Price was a monster tonight,” the veteran coach proudly said.

More notably, the Lady Vikings were able to use their size advantage to score several low post points in the contest. It’s something they have been able to execute well thus far this season, Gladden noted.

“(Against) most teams, we’re going to get the ball inside,” he said. “I haven’t seen every team in the city, but we’re pretty big, and hopefully it (effective post play) continues.”

Winter added 12 points and junior Aurellia Cammock dropped in 11 in the win over the Lady Patriots.

While the Lady Vikings enjoyed an undefeated week, it didn’t begin easy. They eked out a 44-43 road victory versus Lincoln, a tough squad on the rise, earlier in the week. Junior guard Aliyah Cooley scored a team-high 12 points, while Winter contributed 10 against the Lady Railsplitters.

The Lady Vikings will be participating in the Diamond State Classic in Delaware from Tuesday, December 27th to Friday the 30th during the holiday school vacation.

South Shore returns to league action (and home) against Midwood on Wednesday, January 4th at 5 p.m.
