Robbers Hold Up Homeowner At Gunpoint – Get Away With Valuables

By Dara Mormile

An East 95th Street resident was robbed inside his home on Monday, December 19th, and detectives from the 69th Precinct are still hunting for the four thugs responsible for the crime.

According to officials, the victim, whose name was not released, answered his door at about 3 p.m. and saw four males standing outside. They demanded he hand over money, but when he refused, the group forced the man inside his home.

Reports state that the suspects held up the victim at gunpoint while they stole various valuables, including about $200 in cash, jewelry, and some electronics. The robbers then left the scene near Avenue N in a gold minivan, and the victim said they headed south toward Seaview Avenue.

Police responded to the scene shortly after the incident and canvassed the area but were unable to locate the crooks.

In light of the recent robbery, and a recent pattern of similar incidents in Canarsie, detectives are also warning residents to be careful about leaving front and back doors open. Noting that the holidays are an ideal time for criminals to take advantage of homeowners bringing packages into and out of their homes, detectives have been investigating numerous cases involving crimes of opportunity.

Anyone with information on Monday's robbery is asked to call the 69th Precinct Detective Squad at 718- 257-6215 or call Crime Stoppers at 1- 800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept strictly confidential.
