Poetry Contestants Slam Their Competition With Creativity

The H.E.S. held its second annual Poetry Slam on Sunday, December 18, 2011. The crowd was magnificent! Twenty youngsters participated in the event and each participant did an absolutely amazing job. Poems that were recited varied in theme and addressed topics including friendship, bullying and humanity. Judges consisted of public school teachers.

There were two age categories in the competition, ages 10-17 and 18- 25. Prizes were given to first, second and third place winners in each category and medals and awards were given to all contestants. In the 10 through 17-year-old category, the first place winner was Meeluhn Blanc, with the poem called “Just Because I am a Nerd.” In the 18 through 25- year-old category, the first place winner was Kelechi Enwereuzor, with the poem called “Sisters.”
