ROBBERS HIT ANOTHER BODEGA
Owners of small grocery stores in the local area are being warned to be on the lookout for three armed thieves who, in two separate incidents, robbed two stores here within the past two weeks. One took place last Friday, March 18th and another, also on a Friday, March 4th. However, police say it appears at this time that neither case is connected.
The most recent incident was at Evelyn’s Grocery on East 92nd Street and Farragut Road. Police said that shortly before 8:30 p.m., the three men, wearing scarves over their faces, entered the store and told three male employees and one male customer to “get on the floor and don’t move!” While one of the thieves stood at the door as a lookout, the other two, brandishing black handguns, went to the cash register and to the New York Lotto register and took approximately $3,500 in cash. They then went to each employee and the customer and took their wallets, plus two cell phones and fled in an unknown direction.
The previous robbery took place just a block away, at the KSW Grocery & Deli at East 92nd Street and Foster Avenue at 7:45 p.m. The thieves were wearing black hooded sweatshirts and surgical-type masks. There were no injuries in either robbery.
Anyone with information is asked to call the 69th Precinct Detective Squad at (718) 257-6215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept strictly confidential.
