Officials from the 69th Precinct Detective Squad are investigating an incident Friday involving a man who was shot by one of two men in another car going the opposite direction on Ralph Avenue. Police at the scene, along with detectives who visited the victim at the hospital, said his wound was not life threatening.

Police said the shooting took place at the corner of East 80th Street at about 12:30 p.m. The victim, whose name was not released, said he was headed south and waiting for the traffic light to change at that busy intersection when two men in a black, latemodel Mercedes Benz pulled up next to him and shot at him twice. One bullet missed him and the other grazed his forehead. The Mercedes then sped off in an unknown direction.

Witnesses called 911 and paramedics from the Emergency Medical Service transported the victim to Brookdale Hospital, where emergency room doctors treated him and pronounced him in stable condition.

Detectives said Emergency Service Unit officers collected evidence and found two shell casings at the scene.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the detective squad at (718) 257-6215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept strictly confidential.
