Rep. Towns Issues Statement On Protests In The Middle East
Congressman Ed Towns, whose 10th Congressional District covers parts of Canarsie, this week issued the following statement regarding the protests in Egypt:
“People in my district are closely following the developments in Egypt and other parts of the Middle East, as are the vast majority of Americans. Freedom-loving people everywhere empathize with people who peacefully demonstrate because of their desire for the right to enjoy the open and free democratic process that we so often take for granted.
We pray that the current crisis will reach a peaceful solution that is satisfying to all countries in the Middle East, particularly our staunch ally, the nation of Israel.
These recent developments present a major challenge for the Obama Administration because our nation’s long-term friendship with, and support of, Egypt and others allies there.
I support President Barack Obama wholeheartedly and call on my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to let the world know that we are fully behind the Obama Administration’s efforts to bring these developments to an orderly resolution that works for the people in the region and for our national interests.
