NYPD Special Victims Squad detectives are working with officials from the 69th Precinct Detective Squad in searching for a man who robbed, assaulted and forcibly raped a 21-yearold Canarsie resident early last Thursday.

A report issued this week indicated patrol officers were called to the victim’s home where they were met by the woman who told them that the rape took place shortly before 5 a.m. when she was walking home along Avenue M near East 96th Street. She said she was grabbed from behind by a man wearing a ski mask and pulled into the side yard of a private house.

“What have you got?” he asked. She said she only had an iPod and the man took it from her. He then told her to take off some clothing and proceeded to force himself on her. He then fled from the area on foot towards Remsen Avenue, she reported.

She told the officers that after the man left, she went home and showered and washed her underwear and then called 911.

Detectives said she was taken to Kings County Hospital by Emergency Medical Service paramedics. A sexual assault collection kit was prepared and her clothing was taken as evidence. Local detectives said the area where the rape took place was cordoned off and Crime Scene Unit officials collected possible clues.

Police officials stressed that, whenever a sexual assault has taken place, the victim, wherever possible, should not shower or tamper with her own clothing because of the possibility that there could be evidence available.

The rapist was described as black, about six feet, to six-feet-two-inches tall, about late 20s or early 30s with a slim build. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a ski mask.

Anyone who might have seen or heard anything related to the crime is asked to call the detective squad at (718) 257-6215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
