A handful of residents and community leaders gathered Friday evening at the East 105th Street L train station near the Breukelen Houses for the second annual Prayer Vigil intended to unite the community and bring awareness to stop recurring violence in Canarsie.

Community activist Cheryl Prescott organized the event, which included a unity prayer and a candle lighting ceremony in honor of those who have been victimized and died as a result of various crimes in the neighborhood. Prescott encouraged residents to take part in next year’s vigil.
