Councilman Enraged That State Dems Have All White Ticket

City Councilman Charles Barron City Councilman Charles Barron Councilmember Charles Barron recently released the following statement regarding the current condition of New York state politics as it pertains to race:

It is outrageous, unconscionable and unacceptable in the 21st century that black leadership in New York State will sit back silently as Andrew Cuomo and the democratic leaders coronate an all white leadership ticket.

Cuomo especially had the unmitigated gall to choose Mayor Duffy of Rochester, a former Republican, former police chief and an avid fighter against unions, before he would choose a black Lt. Gov. When you look at the white leadership ticket of Cuomo, Duffy, Gillibrand, Schumer and D’Napoli, plus the four white Attorney General candidates, I guess blacks need not apply!

I am sure Cuomo and the others will talk about promises of diversity in their respective administrations, but they did not diversify the power positions. Cuomo could have selected Byron Brown the Black Mayor of Buffalo or Carl McCall as his running mate, but he chose Duffy, the white male from Rochester.

The truth is that white supremacy is the order of the day in state politics. Black people have been sent a clear message by the state Democratic Committee that white privilege and power is the priority of the New York Democratic party.

Structural and institutional racism is alive and all too well in N.Y. I guess the election of the first black president had no impact on the conscience of the white leadership in N.Y. If this isn’t plantation politics at is worst, I don’t know what is.

Some call this the “new democratic party”, but it Seems like the same old stuff to me!
