Man With Gun Arrested After Paerdegat Avenue Shooting
A 29-year-old resident of the Paerdegats was shot in broad daylight as he sat in his car parked on Paerdegat Avenue North last Saturday, police said. During a canvass of the area another man was discovered nearby allegedly carrying a loaded gun and was charged at the time with criminal possession of a weapon. Police, however, are holding him for questioning in the shooting case.
The victim, whose name was not released, told police he entered his black Maxima, which was parked on the west side of the street, at about 4 p.m. and a white car pulled up next to him, at which time someone inside the white vehicle began shooting at him, striking him once in the lower back. The white car then backed out of the parking place, headed south and then turned left, heading east on Seaview Avenue.
The victim was taken to Brookdale Hospital by Emergency Medical Service paramedics. Police did not release information on his condition.
Crime Scene Unit investigators discovered five shell casings at the scene.
Witnesses, meanwhile, said the car belonging to the victim lurched forward when he was shot, causing the vehicle to smash some fencing and a sign belonging to the Sebago Canoe Club.
