Seth Gottfried The early morning quiet on Sunday, June 21 was shattered by the sounds of a barrage of gunshots as two men were shot just outside a nightclub on Ralph Avenue near East 79th Street, police said.

Witnesses said the shooting occurred near the Mystique Nightclub in the 1500 block of Ralph Avenue at about 4:40 a.m. on Sunday when two men began arguing inside the club. Police sources said they took the argument outside into the street and both men shot at each other, while other members of the club's clientele also joined in the shooting. Police said the two victims had been shot "multiple" times, with some bullets hitting cars parked nearby.

When police from the 69th and 63rd Precincts arrived, both victims were on the ground, with the first man having been shot in the back of the head and the other man struck in the lower lip and the right cheek. Police did not release the names of the victims, who were both taken to Brookdale Hospital by paramedics. The first man was found to be in critical condition and was admitted to the hospital and the other was treated and released. Meanwhile, a number of people who had left the club and apparently also took part in the shootings fled in their cars. Emergency Service Units, along with CSI units said they found multiple shells and shell casings from 9mm, .40 caliber and .45 caliber handguns at the scene.

A short time after the shooting, a 21-year-old man was reported to have walked into Kings County Hospital with various wounds, apparently not critical. Detectives interviewed the man and found that his wounds were related to the club shooting. After additional questioning, he was arrested and was identified and eventually charged with gang assault, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Anyone with information on the shootings is asked to call the 69th Precinct Detective Squad at (718) 257- 6215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577- TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
