CHS Students Earn Top Honors In U.N. Competition

A team of six Canarsie High School students recently won a United Nations-sponsored competition over 23 other entrants. "One Planet Many People," a UN research project, was created to provide students with opportunities to highlight realistic and complex social science global issues by use of multimedia. The Canarsie High School team — Regine Ulysse, Irenise Hernandez, Jessica Tassy, Nathania Thompson, Satannia Logan and Patrick-Jean Pierre — led by advisor Daisy Aaron, competed against more than a dozen other city high schools. The issue they addressed was "Human Organ Trafficking." Officials from the United Nations, representatives of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Health, judged the students. In addition to the top honor, each student received a $1,000 college scholarship and an all expenses paid invitation to attend a weeklong United Nations model summit this July.
