Grenada cricketeer D. Alexander
Brooklyn Cricket League reigning champion, Grenada United Cricket Club, destroyed its opposition over the weekend to send a firm message ahead of the upcoming playoff and knockout competition, set to begin Sunday.

Grenada replied strongly to achieve victory in the 29th over, finishing on 182 for the loss of L. Richards for an aggressive 33 and C. Peters, for 28. D. Alexander followed up his fine performance with the ball to be unbeaten on 69, his skipper, K. George, also unbeaten on 24.

P. Prince and D. Dennis shared the two wickets to fall for Grenada, St. Lucia accepting defeat, but well poised in the points standing as they head into the playoffs.

On Saturday, Grenada beat Warriors by 72 runs at Marine Park D. Batting first Grenada was bowled out for 173 in 34.3 overs. Skipper K. George hitting a top-score of 35. His support came from R. In the other game played on Sunday, Travel Treat defeated Pak Eleven by the smallest of margins, pulling off a thriller in the 34th over, at Marine Park B.

Batting first, a team heavily dependent on Barbadian first class player Dale Richards, Travel Treat fell for a paltry 100, as Richards, having already scored three centuries and over 600 runs for the season failed to deliver. D. Cumberbatch and Z. Ahmad with 15 each - Richards getting 12, the only batsmen to reach double figures.

Aqeel, with four for 32 from eight overs was the most successful bowler for Pak Eleven. Ali taking three for 23 from seven; Faisal getting two and Waheed, one wicket were the other successful bowlers.

With only a meager 100 to defend, Travel Treat never gave in as steady seam bowling by S. Islam with figures of five for 16 from eight overs, dashed Pak Eleven's hopes of pulling off an easy victory. Islam got tremendous support from Z. Iqbar and A. Raza, with two wickets each, M. Hussain taking the other wicket to fall. Pak Eleven finished on 99 runs, two short of the required total in 33.3 overs.

Come this Sunday, the Parks will see the return of color clothes as the Knockout Competition gets underway. Jinnah is set to take on Scorpian at Marine Park A, Warriors play Carriacou at Marine Park B, Pak Eleven takes on Diplomats at Marine Park, while Shaheen will battle Travel Treat at Sea View.
