Kingsbrook Hosts Brain Injury Awareness Event For Students
The Brain Injury Association of New York's (BIANY) Janyce Wollney showed students two models of a brain. "The one that's more jelly-like is obviously more realistically sensitive and susceptible to injury," she said. "Now that you see how soft the brain really is, you can understand that it's important to protect it by wearing a helmet at all times when riding your bike or other non motorized recreational vehicles." Wollney told students the correct way to ride a bike. In addition to riding a bike made for their size, children should maintain a safe distance from cars and trucks and use hand signals to communicate with those around them - especially if they are making a turn around a block and there is a vehicle behind them.
Co-sponsored by BIANY, the event featured lectures, a video presentation and demonstrations by volunteers from Brooklyn's Safety City's Walk This Way America program.
