I.S. 285 Students Display Their Roots In Cultural Exhibition

These young students prepared for their turn to take part in dance wars between countries.
Every year at this time, the students at Meyer Levin Intermediate School 285 on Beverly Road stage a Cultural Exhibition denoting their personal history and portraying their family roots in various ways.

Some take the opportunity to express the culture of their native country in dance; some in music and some in fashion, while others bring exotic foods and drinks from their native countries to the event.

I.S. 285's principal, Mr. Edward Gentile, along with coordinator Ms. Erica Jackman, hosted this year's cultural festival as youngsters from mostly Caribbean countries brought items from various countries to enhance their exhibits.

As the students walked around the lunchroom where the event was held, they recognized specific displays portraying artifacts from their home country. A chorus of singers praised their countries with special native songs, while dancers mixed contemporary movements with those of historical significance.
