Remembering A Friend

Supporters who took part in commemorative walk last week.
Family, friends and neighbors gathered last Saturday to celebrate the memory of a youth who tragically died in 2000 for the seventh "Spirit of Life" walkathon in Bergen Beach.

The tribute walk was hosted by Millennium Development and was attended by several hundred people who walked and gave blood in honor of 12-year-old Tommy Meo Jr., remembered for his contagious smile, passion for sports and most of all his love of life.

"It's great to have all these wonderful people come out and walk in honor of our son," said Tommy's parents, Roberta and Tom. "It's touching to see all his friends come together and participate in the walk."

Even after almost a decade, Tommy's friends look forward to the walk every year and constantly ask to hand out flyers and help organize the event.

Donations made by event participants go to the Thomas Meo Jr. Scholarship Fund.
