Canarsie High School Vacated After Bomb Scare Prank

Students, teachers and staff wait in I.S. 211 schoolyard while Canarsie High School is checked after bomb scare last Thursday morning.
What proved to be a prank bomb scare on a pleasant spring morning forced the evacuation of students and staff at Canarsie High School last Thursday morning.

According to several staff members standing across the street from the school at 1800 Rockaway Parkway, the building was emptied after a bomb scare was received in the school office shortly before 9 a.m.

Emergency Service Units were dispatched to the school as Safety officers were instructed to supervise an orderly evacuation.

En masse, most students, teachers and office staff were escorted by 69th Precinct police to the schoolyard at I.S. 211, just a few blocks away on East 100th Street.

Last Friday a school official said everyone was allowed back into the building at about 9:45 a.m. to resume the school day before this week's Spring Break.
