Local "Women Of Valor" Honored At Ceremony

State Senator John Sampson is surrounded by Women of Valor.
State Senator John Sampson last week contributed to the celebration of Women's History Month by naming nine "Women of Valor" for their contributions to society at a special ceremony.

Appropriately held at an institute of higher education, Brooklyn College, the ceremony honored Tunisha Walker, political and legislative director at ACORN; Phoebe Layne, director of Community Affairs at Brookdale Hospital; Divinah Bailey, executive director of the Black Leadership Commission on AIDS; Lisa Schumann, assistant director of nursing at SUNY Downstate; Marie Purnell, president of the Starrett City Tenants Association; Bonnie Impagliazzo, director of government affairs, Brooklyn College; Jacqueline Harry, assistant director of nursing, SUNY Downstate; Gail A. Adams, partner, Adams P.C. & Sampson, Esq.; and Detective Verna McClean, 77th Pct., NYPD.

In noting that this is the first year the ceremony was held, Senator Sampson commended the honorees and told them it will be a "special memory" for all to remember. He was joined later by City Councilman Mathieu Eugene.

Councilman Eugene joined the well-wishers.
The ladies were presented with bouquets of flowers and cheers from families and friends in the audience.
