Sampson Hosts Budget Meeting With Health Care Providers
These sessions are held during the span between the release of the proposed executive budget and negotiations with the legislature. The purpose is largely to allow for state legislators to further familiarize themselves with every major health care services facility, and to ensure that the quality of care is not compromised at the budget-negotiating table. This year's conference was co-hosted by the Continuing Care Leadership Coalition, the organization uniting long-term care service providers, be-cause it was apparent that the long-term care segment of the industry was in most serious jeopardy of having current levels drastically reduced. The forum was a success as a multitude of long-term care administrators and ser-vice providers participated, and held a constructive dialogue. "It should be readily apparent that when an industry that is so incredibly important to the everyday quality of life of our local communities, while at the same time representing over 40 of the state's budget, is an industry that state legislators should have an intimate knowledge of. Only through regular dialogue and relationship-building can we work together to find a productive balance between the existing budgetary issues, and the necessity of not compromising the quality of care our constituents receive," said the senator. "I applaud the Continuing Care Leadership Coalition for their efforts in helping the various pieces of the health care puzzle come together to establish and build a constructive and necessary dialogue. I look forward to continue working with whomever can make a serious contribution to such a relationship, and help us work to en-sure that our community has a viable quality long-term health care system," Sampson added.
