Crime Stoppers Offers Rewards In Two Local Cases
A spokesperson for the national crime-fighting agency told officials at the 69th Precinct Detective Squad they had issued posters and offered a $2,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for shooting and wounding a man last month outside his building near the Breukelen Houses and another $2,000 for information on the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man on East 103rd Street on March 9, 2007. The agency says the first case relates to the shoot-ing of Robert Lovitt, 41, on February 15, in front of his apartment at 274 Stanley Avenue. Detectives said the victim told them a lone gunman walked up to him at about 8:30 p.m., pulled a handgun out of his belt and shot him four times. The shooter then briskly walked away, leaving Lovitt for dead. Residents who heard the shots called police. Lovitt was shot twice in the abdomen and twice in the legs, according to sources. He was taken to Brook-dale Hospital where he is listed in serious condition, but is not expected to die. The second reward is for the arrest and conviction of whoever shot and killed Ainsley Duncan Jr., 21, just before his 2002 Infiniti crashed in a driveway near 1123 East 103rd Street, only a few blocks from the Breukelen project. The Conklin Avenue resident had been driving north on East 103rd at about 9:50 p.m., according to witnesses, who said they heard "some shots" ring out and saw Ainsley's car swerve into a driveway. The car struck an abatement and stopped. The witnesses said they ran to the vehicle and saw Ainsley slumped over the steering wheel. Although it was reported that three men were spotted running from the scene that detail could not be confirmed. When police arrived, they called for an Emer-gency Medical Service ambulance, which took him to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Those calling Crime Stoppers remain anonymous, authorities say. The caller gets paid by an assigned code number. The telephone number is 1-800-577-TIPS.
