"Alert" Issued After Alleged PS 114 Pupil Abduction Attempt Police from the 69th Precinct said this week they are investigating a "safety alert" suggested by the principal of P.S. 114 after one of her young students said someone apparently accosted her and tried to abduct her on the way to school last Thursday morning. Maria Penaherrera, principal of the Remsen Avenue school, sent a flyer out to all parents of children at the school stating that the pupil came running into the office at approximately 9:30 a.m. "in a panic." She was followed minutes later by her mother, who said someone had tried to abduct her child. The mother was taken to the guidance office, where secretary Joanne Bryant called 911. Two officers interviewed the mother and child, taking statements from each. The mother said she was walking a few steps in front of the student on Remsen Avenue between Flatlands Avenue and Glenwood Road - off school grounds. Penaherrera said, "The child was approached by a white male with blondish white hair." The suspect is approximately five-feet, seven-inches tall, heavy set, with glasses. She said he was described as wearing a waist-length black or blue jacket. The mother suggested that, since the child was walking behind her, the suspect might have thought she was walking to school alone. Police sources said they are questioning area residents and parents who might have been walking their child-ren to school at the time and could have seen the incident. If anyone has information, they are asked to call the 69th Precinct at (718) 257-6211. All calls will be kept confidential. Meanwhile, Penaherrera gave a summary of statements to school officials and said a community-wide alert had been issued to all neighboring schools. "We want to assure (parents) that we will remain vigilant in the supervision of our students," the principal wrote. "We are asking you to actively monitor your child at all times."
