FDNY Reminds New Yorkers To Change Smoke Alarm Batteries When Changing Clocks
The New York City Fire Department encourages New Yorkers to change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when they change their clocks this Sunday for Daylight Saving Time. As part of the annual "Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries" campaign, the FDNY Fire Safety Education Unit is distributing 50,000 9-volt batteries and fire safety materials at more than 25 locations this week. The citywide campaign is aimed at promoting fire safety awareness and reminding New Yorkers about the importance of having a working smoke alarm in their home. The batteries were donated by the FDNY Foundation, the Department's non-profit arm which supports equipment, training and education initiatives.
