Cong. Beth Tikvah Presents Regular Rosh Chodesh Celebrations
Recently, when the Hebrew month of Shvat began, over 50 women celebrated the event at the Canarsie Sisterhood Rosh Chodesh Supperette. The celebration took place at Congre-gation Beth Tikvah, 8800 Seaview Avenue (at East 88th Street). For the past few months, the "Neigh-borhood Sisterhood" has held luncheons and supperettes to usher in the start of the new month, known in He-brew as Rosh Chodesh. These have been very successful, as evidenced by the growing number of women and girls who have been attending the events. In fact, the number has more than doubled since the first one. This month, Rebbetzin Malka Green-berg, of Congregation Beth Tikvah, welcomed members and visitors, after which Rabbi Ephraim Topiel, Esq., gave a very interesting talk on the legal aspect of giving advice. The Rabbi was followed by Naomi Scheier, a well-known make-up artist, who demonstrated her skill. All of the attendees enjoyed a spread of bagels, lox, and various salads which were set up by Rebbetzin Greenberg, Shirley Grymbal, Toby Borenstein, and Sharon Gertner, and Rebbetzin Sarah Rakowitz of the Sephardic Jewish Center of Canarsie.
