Dear Editor: Years ago, the "Gas Company" (then Brooklyn Union and since KeySpan, and now National Grid) installed gas meters that didn't require access to the premises to read the gas meter. Some months ago, without any publicity or notification to customers, the gas company stopped reading meters each billing period, and began to estimate every other reading (billing). More ... Question: A mall in Staten Island recently began posting mug shots of shoplifters convicted of stealing from shopping center businesses on video terminals through the shopping center. Do you think this will discourage others, or is it unfair? Why or why not? More ... |
