Lions, Clergy Host Canarsie Brotherhood Night
      Canarsie's clergy, civic leaders and dignitaries came together last Monday night at Holy Family Church to celebrate unity at the annual Brotherhood service. Hosted by the Brooklyn Canarsie Lions Club, the ceremony included testament readings, prayers and performances by some of the most powerful voices in the community.

Gas Station Robberies Continue — With A Twist
      Police from the 69th Precinct now have another gas station to add to the list of what has been termed a "rash" of service station robberies here lately. According to officials from the local detective squad, two men have been robbing stations within an area involving Remsen, Foster and Ralph avenues and, last Friday at about 11:30 p.m. hit the service station at 914 Remsen Avenue.

Former Knick Star Joins BP To Distribute Turkeys
      Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and former New York Knicks star John Starks kicked off the holiday season by distributing a thousand Thanksgiving turkeys and seven tons of trimmings—apples, collard greens, baking potatoes and sweet potatoes— to representatives of nearly a hundred Brooklyn community groups at Borough Hall Plaza.

Vandals Strike Near School
      Police get statements from victims as they check out two cars that were vandalized Monday adjacent to P.S.66 on the Rockaway Parkway extension near Foster Avenue. The victims, both teachers at the school, said it appeared nothing was taken due to the vandalism. Police said they will be patrolling the area more frequently.

Senator Has Birds In Hand
      State Senator Carl Kruger, Chairman of the Social Services, Children and Families Committee, distributed turkeys to needy Brooklyn residents on Monday in preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday. "The Thanksgiving holiday makes us all realize the importance of giving, and the economic situation this year makes the ideas of philanthropy and compassion even more urgent," Kruger said.

CB 18 Approves Home Expansion Application
      A hot topic raised at last month's Community Board 18 meeting sparked mixed feelings among the members and the public. An application to the Boards of Standards and Appeals (B.S.A.) to permit the enlargement of a single family, two-story frame residence at 2007 New York Avenue, within the CB 18 area, caused a bit of tension at the meeting.
