BAYVIEW MURDER SUSPECT CAUGHT

By Dara Mormile

Detectives from the 69th Precinct have arrested a suspect in the slaying of an East New York resident who was stabbed following an argument at the BayView Houses on September 28.

Daryl Morse, 38, who is not from Canarsie, was picked up last Saturday at about 9 a.m. after authorities spent about a week examining his previous police records when he became a possible suspect during the course of their investigation of the incident, which left 24-year-old Ramel Fletcher dead at the scene at East 102 Street and Seaview Avenue.

As reported in last week's edition of the Courier, Fletcher and Morse met near the BayView Houses just after midnight and allegedly got into a dispute over a common female acquaintance who lived near by, according to one account. As the argument escalated, witnesses told detectives Morse pulled out a knife and stabbed Fletcher in the neck and throat.

After police responded to a 911 call, they found Ramel on the ground profusely bleeding. He was rushed to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead approximately one hour after the con-frontation.

Detectives say Morse, who has prior convictions, was arrested and charged with second degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon and several counts of assault. The weapon used in the alleged murder has not yet been recovered.
