A 26-year-old father of a five-month old girl was arrested last Thursday and is being charged with murdering the infant, police said.

According to officials from the 69th Precinct Detective Squad, Gillian Peter of 1237 East 86th Street was picked up the day after an autopsy was performed on his daughter, Tyson.

A spokesperson for Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes said the city medical examiner officially reported the baby died as a result of two linear contusions suffered from severe blunt impacts to the head and hemorrhaging under the scalp.

Peter told police he was watching the infant and her two-year-old brother on Tuesday, September 2 when he discovered she had fallen from her bed. He picked her up and detected she was apparently not breathing. He then called his wife, who was at work as a peace officer with the City De-partment for the Homeless, and she called 911.

Paramedics took the infant to Brook-dale Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. When it appeared there was no cause of death visible, an au-topsy was performed and the medical examiner discovered indications of trau-ma.

Detectives interviewed both Peter and his wife and subsequently arrested the father on the homicide charge, as well as a charge of endangering the wel-fare of a child, according to the D.A.'s spokesman.
