SUSPECT ARRESTED IN JULY SHOOTING

By Charles Rogers

Detectives from the 69th Precinct have arrested a suspect in the brutal shooting of a Canarsie man on East 85th Street after an argument on July 9.

Ricardo Harrison, 24, who lives on East 85th Street, was picked up without incident at about 10:30 p.m. on July 15 as he sat in his car at the corner of Avenue L and East 68th Street in Mill Basin.

Police said Harrison is the brother of Shante Harrison, 19, who, while walking with Ricardo on East 85th Street, came upon the victim walking with another woman and an argument between Shante and the victim, whose name was not revealed, ensued.

The dispute ended with both parties going back to their respective houses, located across the street from each other. Later, both the victim and Shante spoke to each other on the phone, police said, but the phone conversation also turned into an argument and Shante called on her brother to help settle the dispute.

Cops said Ricardo walked across the street to the victim's house with his sister, and called the victim to step outside, at which time Ricardo allegedly reached into his belt, pulled out a handgun and began shooting, striking the victim "numerous" times, according to cops, and wounding him in both legs. Then Shante and Ricardo fled on foot.

Witnesses and neighbors called police and Emergency Medical Service paramedics took the victim to Brookdale Hospital. Cops said the wounds, although serious, were not life threatening.

During the investigation, cops arrested Shante Harrison and charged her with felonious assault, although her brother was missing. When they arrested him, the charges on Shante were dropped and Ricardo was charged. Police said they were also charging him with criminal possession of a weapon.
