69th Precinct Council Baseball Prevails Despite Rainy Days

Rain flooded the fields at Canarsie Park, but it did not stop these determined baseball players. They arrived at the park ready to play and that's just what they did, despite the poor conditions on the field.

Another week of play is in the books, and the players on the Farm and Minors teams are showing off their improved playing skills. Many homeruns are being hit, and the fielding is excellent.

Even the players in the clinic are showing great improvement. Coaches Solomon & Blackburn are really proud of their players. "They are learning to hit and field the ball, and are really listening to the instructions," says coach Blackburn, who has been coaching the clinic players for many years. He enjoys his role and intends to be a coach for a long time. For him, it's a family affair; his children play on various teams and his wife is an assistant coach.

At the end of each game, it's good to see the excitement on the faces of the players as they leave the park after pep talks from their coaches. Not bad after an afternoon of baseball.

Congratulations to the following players for the week ending July 25, selected by their coaches for their outstanding plays.

Minors:

Team A: Raez Baksh: 3 hits and 3 runs; David-Paul Shulze: 2 triples and 2 runs; Terrence Clarke: 2 home runs; and Luke Mallett: 2 base hits for 2 runs.
