Sculpting A Perfect Day
The 18th annual sand sculpting contest in Coney Island was a great opportunity for artists of all ages to show off their eye for detail. Entries included a dragon, complete with red eyes that lit up, intricate castles and popular cartoon characters, such as Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants. Louie Scarcella (above) won second prize for his elaborate rendering of a Fantasy Island complete with plastic dinosaurs and a remote control train, which children were invited to operate as they passed by. First place went to Evan Schlossberg, who won the competition ten years ago, for his sculpture of an Aztec snake.
