FriedmanB-82 bus was severely damaged after hitting light pole to avoid car that driver said ran a red light. Neil S. Friedman A B-82 bus knocked down a light pole at the intersection of Flatlands and Louisiana avenues early Monday morning when the driver swerved to avoid a passenger vehicle that ran a red light, a New York City Transit spokesperson told the Canarsie Courier on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Marissa Baldeo said that the female driver was on its route, heading west on Flatlands passing through the Louisiana Ave. intersection when a passenger car, heading north, suddenly sped through the red light. In order to avoid a collision, the bus driver turned sharply and crashed into the pole on the northwest corner, sending it crashing to the sidewalk and resulting in extensive damage to the bus.

Baldeo said the driver was taken to Brookdale Hospital where she was treated and released. There were no reported injuries to the passengers on the bus.

There was no available information on the passenger car at press time.

The damaged bus towed away shortly after 9 a.m., but local traffic was disrupted and detoured for several hours.
