A 20-year-old East 108th Street resident who was shopping in a small grocery store at 911 East 107th Street, in the Met Food Shopping Center, was shot numerous times in broad daylight last Thursday afternoon.

According to officials from the 69th Precinct Detective Squad, the victim, whose name was not released, walked into the store shortly after 1 p.m. on July 10 and two men followed him. One of the men pulled a handgun from under his shirt and fired, striking the victim twice in the right leg.

The two attackers then turned and fled out the door, heading out of the shopping center and then across East 108th Street and east on Flatlands Avenue. Police did not specify whether they fled on foot or in a car.

Emergency Medical Service paramedics took the victim to Brookdale Hospital where he was admitted and pronounced in stable condition. No one else in the store was injured.

Police said the victim was found to have had an amount of crack-cocaine with him when he arrived at the hospital and that he was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. They are continuing to search for the shooter.
