WOMAN ATTACKED IN HOME INVASION
A Canarsie woman was punched, tied to a treadmill and had her life threatened early Sunday when a man invaded her home looking for money, police said. Police from the 69th Precinct were called at about 10 a.m. on July 6 when the 49-year-old woman escaped from her bindings and called 911. She told detectives that, while asleep around 3 a.m., she heard her bedroom door open. A man entered, approached her bed, put his hand over her mouth, and said, "I know you have money. Where's the money?" The terrified victim, who had been alone in the house, said the attacker threw her from the bed and pulled a pillowcase over her head then tied her arms with a lamp cord to a treadmill across the room. He continued to search the room and, after asking her again where the money was, he tied a scarf around her neck, pulled it tightly and put a knife to her throat, still demanding money. She told him the money was in her purse, which was lying nearby, and, after looking through it and not finding what he wanted, he became angrier and punched her in the face, which caused a large contusion over her left eye. "I know you have more money," he yelled. "Give it to me or I'll stab you." She finally told him the money was in an envelope from which he pulled out an undetermined amount of cash and about $1,500 in money orders. Then he ripped a necklace from her neck and ran out the door and escaped in an unknown direction. The victim said she didn't know whether he got into a car or not. Police said there was no sign of forced entry into the house. The woman, whose name was not released, was treated at the scene by Emergency Medical Service paramedics and was not taken to the hospital. Anyone with information should call the 69th Precinct Detective Squad at 1-718-257-6215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. Calls will be kept strictly confidential.
