TWO ARE HURT IN BAYVIEW SHOOTINGS
Police from the 69th Precinct and PSA-1 had their hands full at the BayView Houses last week when two totally unrelated shootings took place, one outside of 1560 East 102nd Street and the other in an apartment at 5905 Shore Parkway. The wounded victims in both incidents are expected to survive, police said. At about 1 a.m. on June 3, police reports indicate it was a "wild" shooting, with 17 shots being fired from at least two guns. The 27-year-old victim, whose name was not released, told police he was standing on East 102nd Street talking to some friends when a car drove by heading south towards Shore Parkway. As the suspects approached, several shots were fired from the car and the victim, hit three times, fell to the ground. When the shots rang out, the man's friends scattered, but quickly returned to his victim's aid after they called 911. Emergency Medical Service paramedics took the wounded man to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced in stable condition, despite sustaining multiple wounds. Detectives are trying to determine a motive for the shooting because witnesses said there were indications the victim had been involved in a dispute with someone prior to the shooting. When they canvassed the area searching for clues, police found a number of shell casings from two separate weapons - a .25 and a .45 caliber automatic. Anyone who has information on the case is asked to call the local detective squad at (718) 257-6215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential. The second shooting took place at about 8 p.m. last Thursday. PSA-1 (Public Service Authority District 1) police responded to a call that someone heard an argument and a shot fired and, when they arrived, the officers found a man lying on the floor of his apartment suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. Detectives from the 69th Precinct joined the investigation and, as paramedics took the 64-year-old victim to an ambulance, the man told them his wife shot him. The victim and his 62-year-old wife were taken to Brookdale Hospital in separate ambulances. The woman was brought there to be examined as an emotionally disturbed person, according to police sources, who said she was charged with felonious assault.
