South Shore's sports teams' Viking logoSouth Shore's sports teams' Viking logo After losing its regular season finale to Boys & Girls High School, 56-53, earlier this month, the PSAL discovered that the South Shore High School Boys varsity basketball team had an ineligible player on its roster. As a result, the Vikings were forced to forfeit all of its games for the 2007-08 season, altering the team's 6-8 record to 0-14. In addition, the Vikings were subsequently removed from the Brooklyn AA Division post-season playoff schedule, which began this week.

Mel Goldstein, Boys Basketball Commissioner for the PSAL, the governing body for the city's high school sports programs, said, "They had a fifth-year student on the roster, which is a violation. Therefore, we had to suspend the team for the season since he played in every game."

Goldstein would not name the player, and neither John Micillo, South Shore's athletic director or boys' coach Michael Beckles could be reached for comment.
