Another Street Robbery - But This Was Not An Attempt

Another armed robbery, similar to the attempted theft on East 103rd Street last week, occurred last Monday at 2:45 a.m., police said, when a 24-year-old resident of East 82nd Street was accosted by a gun-wielding bandit. This time, however, the thief was successful, taking the man's wallet and other items before fleeing on foot.

Police from the 69th Precinct did not release the victim's name. They said he was not injured.

Sources said the victim was on his way home from work and was walking on Avenue K near East 84th Street when a man ran to him from across the street brandishing a small, black handgun and yelled, "Empty your pockets!"

The victim complied, handing the thief his wallet and other property. As soon as he took the items, the thief ran east on Avenue K and disappeared.

The result of a canvass of the area by police was negative.

The thief was described as a male black, about five-feet, eight inches tall, and weighing about 170. He was wearing a dark jacket and a stocking cap.

Anyone with information is asked to call the 69th Precinct Detective Squad at (718) 257-6215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept strictly confidential. Charles Rogers
